Dorothy’s father was an immigrant from the United Kingdom, while her mother was of Irish and Swiss-German ancestry.
She had her college education at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dorothy met her husband, Lloyd Bridges while acting in a small theatrical play on campus.
The two got married in 1938 in New York City and had been together for 60 years until Lloyd died in 1998 at the age of 85.
Their union was blessed with four children. The names of their children are Beau Vernet, Garrett Myles, Jeffrey Leon, and Lucinda Louise, however, Garrett died of sudden infant death syndrome on August 3, 1948.
On February 16, 2009, Dorothy died of age-related causes in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles. She died at the age of 93.
