A young heir to the New York supermarket chain D’Agostino committed suicide with a gun near the University of Virginia campus where he was a student — the third tragedy the college has suffered in recent weeks, police sources said.

The body of Peter D’Agostino, the 20-year-old great-grandson of grocery store magnate Nicholas D’Agostino Sr., was discovered by cops around 2 p.m. Thursday, according to the Charlottesville Police Department.

“This news comes in the midst of a very difficult time for the University community … Let’s look out for one another as a community as we grieve Peter’s loss and begin to heal together,” Pat Lampkin, vice president of the school, told the school newspaper Cavalier Daily.

D’Agostino’s untimely death comes after members of the college fraternity Phi Kappa Psi were accused of brutal gang rape, and just a week after missing student Hannah Graham’s death was ruled a homicide.

D’Agostino, a sophomore, was not a member of Phi Kappa Psi or any other fraternity. He performed in the improv comedy troupe, The Weathermen, and was on the school’s snowboarding team.

D’Agostino — whose great-grandfather founded the supermarket chain in 1932 — was originally from Greenwich, Conn. His funeral was held at St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday morning.

He is survived by his father, Walter D’Agostino, and mother, Mary Beth D’Agostino.

“R.I.P Peter D’Agostino,” a friend, Luke Howson, tweeted.

“Peter D’Agostino will be remembered as a friend who was always the funniest and kindest gentleman in the room,” the school newspaper said in an editorial Monday.
