Robert Sargent Shriver Jr. was an American diplomat, politician, and activist who lived from November 9, 1915, until January 18, 2011. He was the father of Maria Shriver.

He belonged to the Kennedy family because he was Eunice Kennedy Shriver’s spouse.

As the main architect of the 1960s War on Poverty, Shriver developed the Job Corps, Head Start, VISTA, Upward Bound, and other programs in addition to the Peace Corps.

He was the vice presidential candidate for the Democratic Party in the presidential election of 1972.
